PUC-Rio’s maker space architecture design, operating model concept, and implementation of manufacturing solutions for the structural components employing generative parametric systems and digital fabrication technologies such as CNC and robotic arms.
Work Areas and Relaxation Zones Accessible to All
Every corner is designed with accessibility in mind, with elevators and ramps seamlessly connecting the spaces, complemented by the availability of a portable climbing chair for the mezzanine area.
A Dynamic Space Cultivating Creativity
INOVAFAB, inspired by MIT's Fab Lab, provides PUC-Rio students with digital and analogue manufacturing tools to explore and realize projects. Covering 400 m², it includes event spaces, a café, and student workspaces.
Versatile Walls
To tackle this challenge, perforated sheet metal was ingeniously employed to imbue the walls with functionality. A carefully crafted hole pattern allows for the installation of functional objects tailored to the laboratory's evolving operational requirements.
Sustained Innovation
Sustainability and adaptability are achieved through active student involvement in creating the laboratory, especially in designing replaceable furniture and coverings. Workshops within INOVAFAB allow PUC-Rio students to collaborate, ensuring the space continually evolves to meet their needs.
